Senior Lead | Accredited Exercise Physiologist
-
Jun 2014 - Jul 2023
As the senior lead Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) and team supervisor at the Vario Health Clinic, a rehabilitation facility within Edith Cowan University's Exercise Medicine Research Institute, I oversee a team of 5 other AEPs. In this role, I am responsible for designing and conducting individualized exercise programs and group classes for clients with diverse chronic and acute health conditions, ranging from cancer and cardiopulmonary issues to musculoskeletal, metabolic, workcover, NDIS, and DVA clients. My focus is on tailoring exercise programs to meet their specific needs, aiming to prevent fatigue and illness, enhance their quality of life, and alleviate symptoms while adhering to evidence-based practices. To ensure accurate assessments, I utilize various assessment tools, including the NeuroCom balance assessment, DEXA, PQCT, Met cart, spirometry, and other testing equipment as part of client evaluations. I have also actively contributed to research efforts, participating in the testing and implementation of research trial protocols, as well as assisting with patient recruitment for cancer research studies. In addition to my clinical work, I have a substantial background in teaching and mentoring practicum students. Over the course of 8.5 years, I have provided over 3000 hours of training annually to Exercise Physiology students from multiple universities. I have also delivered exercise physiology seminars at both Edith Cowan University and Murdoch University and have actively engaged with the Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) by participating in industry panels for West Australian events and student initiatives. Currently, I manage a rotation of 15 students, with four of them being under my direct supervision as their primary practicum supervisor. Show less
