Jun 2018 - Nov 2018
Belle Vue Productions creates documentary films and promotional videos for arts and heritage organisations in the North West. I have had the opportunity to work as a freelancer with the company, and I have been able to advance my camera operating techniques, record sound, and interview members of the public. It has been an invaluable experience to have the chance to work alongside seasoned professionals, but also to have the free reign to go and do my own work for the company. Key responsibilities: - Camerawork - Sound recording - Locating and interviewing members of the public - Transcribing Show less

The Network Delegate 2018
-
Aug 2018 - Aug 2018
The Network offers 60 applicants the opportunity to take their first steps into the TV industry through a series of masterclasses, networking events and development opportunities at the largest TV festival in the UK. It was a fantastic occasion to meet top professionals and hear some insightful advice about forging a career in television. I had the chance to help create a 'review' show as part of the festival, and was a member of the research team which had two days to craft four short VTs to include in the show. I was able to help source talent including Joanna Lumley and members of the Love Island cast to appear in our videos. I also had the chance to aid in the shooting and editing of the VTs. Key responsibilities: - Supported the creation and organisation of a 30 minute live ‘review’ show - Researcher for 4 short VTs - Sourced information - Found guests and interviewees - Shot material for the VTs - Co-edited the final footage http://www.thetvfestival.com/talent-schemes/the-network/networkers2018/ Show less

Manchester Histories Festival

Assistant Heritage Producer
-
Nov 2017 - Jun 2018
Manchester Histories Festival is a biennial celebration of the history and culture of Manchester. What appealed to me the most about Manchester Histories was the chance to disseminate the storied past of Manchester on a wide scale. I was able to connect with the public through their different social media channels and I also helped to plan the ‘Debating Day’ held at Manchester Central Library. Witnessing how the company has attempted to capture public attention with history through a number of different mediums, such as music, visual artistry and poetry highlights the diverse ways that they can translate Manchester’s past. Key responsibilities: - Connected with the public through social media during the festival - Researcher for their ‘#OnThisDay’ feature - Blogged for their website - Assisted in the conception and organisation of the 2018 festival - Enhanced guest participation https://culturalpractice.wordpress.com/2018/09/18/jake-gill-manchester-histories-festival/ https://manchesterhistories.co.uk/blog/jakegill Show less

Visitor Engagement Volunteer
-
Oct 2017 - Apr 2018
Volunteering at the National Football Museum has given me the chance to engage with visitors from all over the world. Hearing and sharing stories with the guests was extremely rewarding, and assisting in object handling and activities improved the interaction and experience of the visitors. I also had the opportunity to undergo Mencap Disability Awareness Training to understand the best ways to connect with people who have mental disabilities. Key responsibilities: - Aided guests with queries and problems - Treated visitors with warmth to make their visit enjoyable - Mencap Disability Awareness Training Show less
