  Great Salt Lake Institute (GSLI) at Westminster College was created to support research, outreach and stewardship of Great Salt Lake. As coordinator for GSLI, I work with the director and assistant director to implement and coordinate all GSLI activities. Duties included are managing undergraduate research at Westminster College, creating internship opportunities for students, developing and implementing all K-12 outreach programs and collaborating with other GSL researchers. Additionally, I manage the GSLI budget, assist with grant writing, report to grant directors and strategically plan for the future of GSLI. Show less

  The Great Salt Lake Ecosystem Program was created by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to conserve the avian and aquatic communities of Great Salt Lake through monitoring and research. As a biologist specializing in the aquatic resources of GSL I worked in a team to implement and coordinate aquatic monitoring projects including zooplankton and phytoplankton field collection, lab analysis of the samples followed by analysis of the data generated. I was also responsible for maintenance and reporting of brine shrimp harvest records, correspondence with brine shrimp harvesters and analysis of harvest activities. Management of 2 – 5 seasonal technicians was an integral part of my job. Utah Strategic Alliance

  The Utah Strategic Alliance was a commercial brine shrimp harvesting company that harvests brine shrimp cysts from the GSL. While employed there I directed and assisted field and laboratory research and analysis pertaining to GSL Artemia. Furthermore, I implemented and directed GSL algal research. Duties included were weekly collection, preparation, enumeration and analysis of brine shrimp and phytoplankton populations within the GSL. Additionally, I have maintained pure algal cultures and brine shrimp populations in the laboratory. Specialized equipment used in this research include a fluorometer, Coulter Brand particle counter, various microscopes, dissolved oxygen meter, and micropipette’s. I also maintained detailed records of data collected in the field and generated experimentally in the lab. I was promoted to lab manager at the Utah Strategic Alliance in charge of the QA/QC (Quality Assurance / Quality Control) Department which analyzed the quality of the cysts that were processed by the company.
