Laboratory of Dr. Juliette Lecomte ∗ Discovered pH- and redox-related determinants of heme coordination in an algal hemoglobin via modified interactions at the active site periphery and co-led collaboration with MD/QM computational group (University of Buenos Aires), resulting in 2 publications, 6 conference oral/poster presentations, and 1 database entry (PDB ID 6CII). ∗ Characterized structure and stability in a consensus-designed hemoglobin with NMR spectroscopy, chemical denaturation, and heme binding thermodynamics, shedding light on sequence determinants of function (3 conference posters, manuscript in progress). ∗ Initiated study of a deep-sea piezophilic hemoglobin, focused on oligomeric properties (via X-ray crystallography, NMR, and AUC) and unusual oxidative reactivity (with mass spectrometry and stopped- flow kinetics), as part of the NSF Extreme Biology/Biophysics collaborative research network (2 conference oral/poster presentations, 1 database entry [PDB ID 7TT9], manuscript in progress). ∗ Senior lab management for 2+ years; one-on-one mentoring of 4 junior lab members; assisted in writing an accepted NSF EAGER grant to biophysically characterize structural and non-structural proteins of SARS-CoV-2 in collaboration with the Barrick Lab (JHU).
