  The Chicago Rises Fund is a search fund which pursues a "double bottom-line:" the first being profit, and the second being a positive social impact. As a summer intern at Chicago Rises, My job was to narrow down a universe of companies that would fit in our acquisition range and have the potential to hire and job train workers from marginalized communities and neighborhoods affected by gun violence in Chicago. I created an Excel database of over 11,000 companies in the fund's range in the Chicago area. Working with my supervisor and another intern, I filtered this list into several categories and mapped them out to help us identify where to locate the business. We eventually narrowed the list down to around 60 companies by the end of the summer. In addition to this analytical work, I also read and distilled insights from leading industry magazines daily to send to my supervisor. Show less
