While working as a Programme Assistant and Content Creator with the Access, Participation and Inclusion team on Head Start, I also took on an additional role on the programme’s social media team. In this role, I devised and managed the SM schedule alongside the programme managers; developed the programme’s branding package (including brand colours, logo and typography) and developed templates on Canva; I led the group to ensure the team were communicating ideas, working to schedule and achieving high design and grammatical standards, and I also created a number of original digital assets so we'd not have to rely on generic graphics. It was incredibly rewarding to be part of this programme, and I loved being one of the first representatives to welcome new students to Kingston. My dedication, hard-work and high-standards were acknowledged throughout, and the programme manager took the time to provide feedback on my work: "You've met the challenge of every task I've set you. You've been willing to learn new skills, such as video editing and subtitling. You've pushed yourself to speak up during meetings, produced incredibly thought-out, planned and polished video content, demonstrated your extraordinary talents on SM, and have been a massive support to my work in preparation for and during Head Start. As a successful applicant on a Creative Access mentorship programme for students from under-represented groups, I was partnered with a current industry professional to assist my development and help me to prepare for a career in industry. I was paired with Bloomsbury HR Manager and experienced mentor, Diane Hobbs. Over the course of the 6-month programme, we scheduled monthly check-in meetings, with agendas being defined by myself. Recognising my clear passion for publishing and interest in marketing, Diane exceeded expectations by introducing me to one of the Marketing Executives on her team, Elle Chilvers. This networking opportunity increased my understanding of publisher marketing activities and also gave me greater insight into the possible career progression routes for my departments of interest. With Diane's encouragement, I established myself as a microinfluencer on 'Bookstagram' and began interacting with publisher marketing and publicity professionals. Show less
