  I served as a student manager to co-supervise a team of 10 community assistants (CAs). This included assisting in: training and scheduling CAs for their shifts at a 24-hour community center, coordinating all community center operations and customer service initiatives (i.e. community center programming), maintaining all logs and data collection, fostering a community center environment of openness and respect for residents and staff, and handling administrative paperwork and billing for resident room moves. More specifically, I contributed by writing a Mid Year Hiring Guide for new mid-semester hires, putting on an educational and cultural program "Chinese New Years", which educated Sewall residents on the culture significance of the Lunar New Year through traditional food and crafts, and facilitating a lesson on Gallup's Strengths Quest for a group of ~25 community assistants, that focused on the our area's strengths and how we can use these to foster an environment of teamwork and synergy.   I assisted in helping students learn and complete several different lab techniques to isolate and identify mycobacteria phages. I facilitated and taught a variety of different lab experiments, from completing phage titer assays to making agarose gels and running PCR analysis to a class of students. This entailed having a foundation of knowledge about the lifecycle and structures of phages, as well as the biology behind it.

  I worked in the Rissland Lab located on the Anschutz Medical Campus, under the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. RBI (RNA Biosciences Initiative) matches interns with one of the department faculty to allow them to gain more research experience and work on a project under the direction of the mentor. My project focuses on codon optimality within mRNA open reading frames and how this contributes to translation elongation rates.
