  In my role as research assistant at Applied Horticultural Research I had the opportunity to work in a privately funded research lab. I was able to develop my skills working independently to obtain data over several weeks and then work closely with a small group or researchers to consolidate our finding. In this role I had the opportunity to be involved with a range of different studies including: - Use of alternatives to 'traditional' chemical pesticides with a specific focus on fruit flies. - Alternative dietary practises to increase the sustainability of fish farming - Alternative fertilisers and additional nutrient support to reduce lettuce blindness and crop loss.
