Telephone Crisis Counsellor
-
Jun 2008 - Aug 2009
The main responsibility of a telephone crisis counsellor is prevention and crisis intervention. Crisis Counsellors focus their services on suicide prevention, but they also offer supportive counselling to help people with other extremely stressful or overwhelming situations. Such situations may include homelessness, severe grief, diagnosis of a serious illness or struggles with psychological disorders and stress. They also refer clients to outside organizations, such as hospitals or mental health clinics, for ongoing mental health treatment or services. If a situation sounds truly dangerous, they would call in first-responders.
