The Sr. Project Engineer plans and conducts design or analysis work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. This position performs work involving conventional engineering practice along with a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and difficult coordination requirements. The Sr. Project Engineer possesses a broad knowledge of precedents and thorough experience in all conventional areas of design. This position acts as a technical mentor to other engineers. This role interacts with clients on a consultative basis and may generate additional client business. Show less

Pursued a master's in welding engineering with my research focused on multi-scale modeling of brazed joints in Ni-base super alloys for gas turbine applications. Research experience includes mechanical and fracture mechanics testing, FEA modeling on Abaqus, and strain mapping with digital image correlation. Throughout the project, hands on experience in the brazing process was gained starting from surface prep, laser tack welding, vacuum furnace brazing and heat treatment and ending with non-destructive ultrasonic evaluation and SEM fractography of the final brazed joints. Brazing is a unique process capable of joining materials with minimal damage to the base material properties, but the mechanical behavior of the brazed joint microstructure is still not fully understood. Ni-base superalloy brazed joints are used for the manufacture and repair of high temperature gas turbine engines. However, there are no standard test methods that compensate for the stress concentrations, high tri-axial stress, and potential defects that can reduce the strength of a brazed joint. The study investigated the impact of a variable joint geometry (lap, butt, and rod in collar), type of loading (tensile or shear), and form of braze filler metal (foil or paste) have on the mechanical performance of IN718/BNi-2 braze joints. The damage zone method was applied to model and predict the stress concentrations and joint strength of the brazed test samples using FEA and it was validated through DIC measurements. I worked alongside the welding and metallurgy research group under the advisement of Dr. Alexandrov and presented my results the Ma2JIC conference in Knoxville, TN. I reverse-engineered a gas chromatography thermal conductivity detector from a commercial device and developed LabVIEW software to control and operate it. I filed for a patent for a newly designed calibration valve for the device. Other lab work included polishing samples, welding thermocouples, and operating lab equipment such as a vertical and light radiation furnace for SS DTA analysis. Show less

The internship consisted of two summer positions. The first summer I conducted research on thermoelectric materials alongside professional engineers. I gained technical experience in the machine shop, running a SEM and x-ray characterization machine, and working in a chemistry lab. The second year I fabricated an ultrasonic spray booth and developed LabVIEW software controls, consisting of a xyz translation stage, an ultrasonic atomizer, and two syringe pumps.
