  By virtue of being the Law Student Association's Vice President of External Affairs, Jacob's primary task is serving as a Legislative Councillor for the Faculty of Law with the Students' Society of McGill University. Meeting biweekly, the SSMU Legislative Council sets out policy via motions that guide the SSMU Executive in their day to day actions in support of the McGill undergraduate student body.

  Jacob was elected Vice President External Affairs of the LSA at the end of his first year at the faculty. Through this position Jacob learns to advocate for the association's collective voice within larger organizations that do not always agree on courses of action.

As speaker Jacob's tasks included taking meeting minutes, enforcing rules of procedure, and ensuring meetings ran efficiently. Jacob's time as speaker prepared him as a moderator of organized debate, taught him Robert's Rules of Order, and served as a chance to return to student governance after four years away from academia as a Nurse Clinician.   Jacob has worked in the Cree Nations of Mistissini, Waskanagnish, and Whapmagoostui providing nursing care during business hours and on call emergency services. Flying up to these indigenous nations, Jacob would stay for four to nine weeks providing care to patients of all ages in the CLSC. This experience working with the Cree has humbled him and marked him with the importance of an honest and legitimate process of truth and reconciliation with indigenous peoples in Canada.   Jacob started his nursing career at the Montreal Children's Hospital Emergency Department. In his time working for the department, he had the chance to care of babies, trauma patients, and children in dangerous situations of psychological distress. Jacob learned the skills necessary to deescalate intense situations and respectfully challenge authority in critical moments to ensure the best outcomes for patients.
