  I have provided weekly consulting to support data collection methods, UX design, and usability engineering for a mentorship and professional development system currently used by over 500 employees from more than 10 companies nationwide. In this role, I have led teams designing and improving personality assessments and surveys. I work with developers to improve the UX and usability of AIM's interfaces and products. I also serve as an in-house researcher to ensure that our decisions are based on the best data available.

  I am a research and teaching assistant for various classes at PSU in the College of Information Sciences and Technology. As a teaching assistant, I am responsible for handling class planning and organization, assisting student projects, grading research reports, and occasionally lecturing as needed. I have helped run courses on conducting research into user-centered design and on cognitive psychology in technology design. As a research assistant, I am responsible for conducting research on cognitive models of learning, usability design, and cognitive psychology. I have developed and implemented novel data collection and analysis methods for in-person and remote testing. I have worked with outside stakeholders to collaborate on design and usability research, and I provided general research support for the Applied Cognitive Science Lab by maintaining our web server, mentoring and supporting junior researchers, and consulting with fellow researchers on difficult problems.

  • Worked directly with stakeholders to develop user interface guidelines for complex tasks within command centers. • Co-wrote a ≈45,000 word literature review of cognitive work in command centers which is currently in press as a SpringerBrief in HCI. • Began development of an experimental protocol for a human-in-the-loop simulation for operators within a command center monitoring unmanned autonomous systems. • Self-taught interface design with Axure for creating functional prototypes. • Used Axure to recreate two current interfaces and develop a new interface based on the systems used within command centers developed by Harris Corp.

This job involves long hours of meticulous work in which attention to detail is key. Peer communication and reliability meetings ensure that each team member functions as an important, reliable resource due to the consistency required within our work. Further plans include utilizing the tools and data within the lab for the purpose of publishing personal research as an undergraduate.
