  Permasteelisa is a global building façades specialist, providing building facades design, engineering, off-site manufacture, supply and installation services for complex mega-projects throughout China including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.In August 2015, I travelled to Permasteelisa’s Shanghai office for work experience. I spent the majority of this time in their 3-D modelling department where, amongst other things, I learned how acoustic engineering and computer modelling of different façade designs can inform design decisions to achieve minimal noise transmission from the outside to the inside of a building.I also visited some iconic buildings in Shanghai where Permasteelisa have maintenance contracts for the exterior facades, including the 101 storey Shanghai World Financial Centre, learning how mega-tall building facades can be maintained safely.Finally, I learned how complex project proposals (tenders) are developed, how they are laid out and which parts of the proposal are most important to investors, to ensure that they choose Permasteelisa above other façade companies.
