In my current role I work part time in Gloucestershire college with the Student Programmes Office, using Unit-e to manage staff and student timetables, create courses and registers, and make room bookings for staff. One of my main roles is to look after School of Computing in the college, adjusting timetables, making withdrawals and transfers across courses, and giving general timetable assistance to the tutors. My role at Graig shipping PLC was of Junior Accounts Assistant and during my time I participated in many activities including purchase and sales invoicing, using banking software to make and record payments, and many other tasks including developing a procedure to assist in remote working before the first lockdown. Also of note were the further responsibilities given to me in closing accounts, helping prepare information for month end balance sheets and profit & loss sheets, and assisting in completion of the companies audit through gathering and producing relevant information. I gained a significant amount of self-confidence and developed a keen work ethic through the office environment. The work itself helped advance my abilities in office software and further improve my work efficiency and effectiveness. Having the lockdown and “work from home” order implemented during my placement has given me the ability to adapt to new environments and situations I would not have learnt had I been furloughed. Being responsible for payments and reconciliation at the end of shifts instilled a need for swiftness while maintaining accuracy in my work.
