• Managing a constant caseload of approximately 240 active files. • Attending to the preliminary assessment of new matters as they are allocated to Team Murray, with a view to determine issues such as the merits (existence of liability), locus standi (whether an application for a Curator ad Litem is necessary (in respect of mentally incapacitated and minor claimants)), the anticipated legal and procedural challenges, the preliminary determination of quantum, medical experts to be appointed, etc. • Conducting research in respect of all aspects of compliance of claims against the RAF prior to lodgement of these claims with the RAF.• Conducting research in respect of compliance with High Court Practice Directives (which are constantly changing) in ensuring that the litigation of claims and subsequent deadlines are strictly met. • Liaising with medical experts such as Doctors and Actuaries, with a view to ensure that the injured client is assessed by the correct medical expert(s) in order to quantify the matter in preparation for settlement and/or a trial. • Attending to the drafting of relevant pleadings, notices and applications, such as summonses, pre-trial minutes, applications for trial dates (consisting of practice notes and affidavits by Mr Murray to deal with compliance issues), etc. • Attending to the preparation of specialised applications such as applications for the appointment of Curators (both Curator ad Litem as well as Curator Bonis), applications to Compel and Interlocutory Court Applications. • Determining the necessity and/or advisability for the appointment of a suitable advocate in preparation of an anticipated trial in matters where settlement negotiations have failed. • Consultations with an Accident Reconstruction Expert, with a view to attend a scene of an accident, if necessary, to consider factual findings and draw certain inferences for preparation of trial.
