    • Collections Assistant
      • Oct 2015 - Feb 2017

My role was to assist to the Curator. I performed many tasks, but one of my main duties was to manage the collections. I was responsible for researching, accessioning and de-accessioning objects, cataloguing the collection using the MODES collections management system, updating and improving current object records, and cleaning, labelling, packaging and storing the objects. This role also provided me with the experience in object handling and movement. I taught and worked with volunteers and worked as a team. Furthermore, I work with the Curator to create events and de-install, install and develop exhibition displays and the Display of the Month.

    • Marketing Communications Intern
      • Apr 2016 - Sep 2016

My main role has been to lead and manage a project to create gallery guides; working together with the curators, the front of house team, marketing assistants, freelance photographers, students, volunteers and external organisations. This project also involved handling and moving archaeological artefacts and natural historical specimens, researching the collections, using the MODES collections management system, searching for funding and producing information sheets. However, I have performed many other duties such as: assisting the Museum Manager with running and managing the museum, working in the café and gift shop and at the admissions desk, correspondence, dealing with enquiries and loans, helping with exhibition installations and marketing temporary ones, security and building maintenance, opening up and closing down procedures, health and safety, organising events i.e. children’s birthdays, student socials, creating children’s museum education packs and assisting with exhibition previews and open evenings. Moreover, I have further developed my knowledge and skills in collections care i.e. cleaning taxidermy and archaeological artefacts and pest management. I have now completed my contract, and I am on the casual staffing list.

    • Internship
      • Jul 2015 - Sep 2015

I was given the opportunity to learn and experience various roles, such as managing the collections and catalogue processes, outreach programmes for care homes and schools, public lectures. Worked with volunteers. I attended a training/development session with the organisation Creative Minds, looking at how the museum can connect with the school curriculum. The main objective of this placement was to redesign and transform the gallery Lark Hill Place from its Victorian setting into a representation of a Salford street in 1917 to commemorate the First World War centenary for 2017. This gave me the opportunity to extend my skills and explore the collections, identifying objects to remove from the current display and objects to replace them, and undertake research into the history of Britain during the Great War. Lead a public tour around Lark Hill Place about the project to redesign the gallery.

The project explores the archaeology of the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, Western Scotland. I gained knowledge about beginning an excavation without the use of a JCB, learnt how to plan and further practised my skills excavating and using the EDM on a completely different terrain. Excavating at Burrough Hill in 2012 was a two-week compulsory part of my university degree. I gained experience in using archaeological tools and practised skills such as levelling. In 2013, I volunteered to excavate to improve skills I had already acquired and further my experience in archaeological digs.
