I completed my apprenticeship under Peter Cross and the exciting team at KCB Developments. KCB gave me my long awaited taste of full time work in construction. In the final year of my apprenticeship Peter enrolled me in the HIA certificate IV program to further develop my knowledge in construction. Along with the certificate IV Peter promoted me to a foreman position. My day-to-day tasks included management of up to three different projects priced between $50,00-$500,000. It was my responsibility to ensure the project completion time frames were achieved, whilst conforming to KCB high standard of quality and safety procedures. In my fourth and final year of my apprenticeship I was lucky enough to be nominated for the Skills Institute Apprentice of the year program. After meeting the criteria and a series of interviews I was awarded North West Coast apprentice of the year and the Australian Institute of Building (Tasmanian Chapter) Florence M Taylor Award (Individual). In my final year of employment with KCB Developments I was the foreman for an award winning home in Ulverstone Tasmania. The home was essentially built out of a 70 year old recycled bridge.
