Shad Canada is a charitable organization that offers an award-winning enrichment and entrepreneurship program and a network that empowers exceptional high school students – at a pivotal point in their education – to recognize their own capabilities and envision their extraordinary potential as tomorrow’s leaders and change makers. For four weeks in July, grades 10 and 11 students get to experience living on one of 19 university campuses across Canada participating in lectures, labs, and local activities to expand their horizons and become part of a bigger network of creative thinkers.

Lisaard House, is a 6-bed residential hospice for people who are dying of cancer related illnesses. Located in Cambridge and serving Waterloo Region, Lisaard House offers their services free of charge. On July 21, 2015, Lisaard House opened Innisfree House, a second, 10-bed residential hospice, located in Kitchener and serving people requiring palliative care for any end of life disease. Over the years, I looked after all of the charities administrative functions and then from 2013-2015 I also chaired the capital campaign to raise $4.4 million to build Innisfree House.
