As a teaching assistant for the Frontiers Abroad Earth Systems six-week field camp for undergraduates, I was responsible for facilitating and supporting module lessons, advising students in semester-long research projects (80+ hours/week), the health, safety, and emotional support of participants, acting as the program meal planner and chef, travel logistics, and miscellaneous support tasks while traveling North and South islands of New Zealand. The five weeks were almost extensively full field research days requiring knowledge of New Zealand flora and fauna, ecological methods, geological surveying techniques, oceanography, and local Maori culture and customs. - Accepted into the Northfield Mt. Hermon Summer Session Teaching Intern Program - Co-taught a Marine Biology major course to to middle school students. The class met five times a week for an hour and a half. Engaged students with actual marine specimens, videos, pictures, relevant textbook passages, and a field trip to the New England Aquarium. Designed and administered quizzes and tests. Students were primarily from abroad and English was not their primary language. - Individually taught and developed the curriculum for the Renewable Energy minor course for middle schoolers. The class met four times a week for an hour and a half. Engaged students with presentations, videos/documentaries, guest speakers, field trips, activities, and projects. Organized field trips to a local wind farm, local architecture firm, and local farm. Students were primarily from abroad and English was not their primary language. - Individually coached 18-22 middle school soccer four times a week for an hour and half. Students were from various countries and had varying skill levels. Chaperoned two away games at nearby schools. - Advised female high school students (3 from abroad) and provided emotional support. - Chaperoned off-campus trips to hike Mt. Monadnock, visit Boston, and visit New York City. Supervised the End of Summer Dance. - Weekly professional development focused on classroom management and lesson planning. Show less
