During this time at Design Craft I was training to become proficient in the role of 'composite technician.' The aim of this internship was to gain hands-on experience working on composite parts, to better my understanding of all the processes involved during manufacturing. At LM Wind Power I worked to create 2D diagrams of different blade systems, by extracting information about parts and their connections from 3D CAD models. These diagrams were used as tools to facilitate DFMEA meetings and ensure thorough analysis. I worked alongside the CNC team at Design Craft on a number of different projects to add value across their business. During my time there I worked as a CNC machinist, operating their 5-Axis and 3-Axis CNC routers using Rhino (CAD), Autodesk's PowerMill and Alpha CAM. I worked alongside the team at Design Craft to help and learn about the design and manufacture of composite parts/tooling. I was also assigned my own project to manufacture a tidal turbine model to be tank tested. I coordinated this project by working on the CAD myself then liaising with the CNC machinists.
