The attitude I take into work matches my upbeat energy and enthusiasm, with the aim of some of that rubbing off onto my co-workers to make a more pleasant work environment for all. I believe that this will benefit all my peers around me creating good working relationships enabling tasks to be carried out more efficiently. In my job it is vital to be able to help customers in any way that they need assistance, then I show my confidence when I have to approach people who are breaking the rules of the stadium e.g. not allowing smoking inside the ground. Showing initiative is also something that comes naturally to me. When there is a problem my first thought is always how can I get around this. I love working with others in groups to come up with new ideas however, taking the leadership role is something that I can do with confidence.

I am currently in my second year of studies at Sheffield Hallam University where I am half way through the first semester. I am greatly looking forward to starting my placement module in semester 2 as I will be able to test my skills and apply them to the real world. In my first year, we completed multiple modules that are highly relevant to the business world today such as, Developing Management and Leadership Practice where we used a case study on how the All Blacks are so efficient in leadership. Another relevant module that I studied was Principles of Marketing and finance for Sport Managers. This was a very insightful and challenging module as we delved into business accounting and had to make and market our own product for our marketing exam. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic my final half of second year and third year was heavily effected due to restrictions in place. Even though I faced countless problems including online lectures and no face-to-face learning, I still managed to achieve top marks in all my assignments as well as a 1st in my dissertation. This meant that my final mark was graded at a 1st which reflects the hard work I have put in over my 3 years at university. The pandemic taught me that if I want to achieve greatness then it would require a huge amount of commitment and and relentless work ethic.

This was my first experience of the world of work where I would work from 9-5 on weekends for the first time in my life due to having an intense swimming training and competing schedule. This taught me a lot about safety and fair decision making, this was because I had to make high pressure decisions in competitions with as many as 5 shooters counting on me to make the correct decision. As well as that I also gained fantastic people skills and organisation in my everyday and work life. I still take much of this with me now as it was a great building block to adult life.

This was the first time that I went on work experience and it was a very enlightening experience for me at a fairly young age. I decided to do it in the IT business as this was how I felt that the world of business was going. It gave me a great insight into a professional working environment at a large company. I’m glad I completed this as I shadowed in many departments such as Marketing, research and sales as well as in the IT department. Thanks to my A level, GCSE and work experience all in IT I have lots of knowledge in that department and am confident when using technology. I believe that I can take a lot from shadowing the different departments as I gained real world experience into how for example, the marketing department works. I was told to come up with a marketing plan and make a poster/display for them into what I think they could implement.
