This is my third summer coaching for BEA. I moved to Bend when I was 12 years old and have been biking with BEA ever since, first as a student and now as a coach. I raced cross country for two years until realizing that my passion for biking was not centered around racing, but instead for teaching and riding for fun. I love teaching and riding at Phil’s and ripping the downhill at Bachelor. My favorite trail in Bend is Lower Whoops. This is my third summer coaching for BEA. Head of Strategy, Chaos Theory - Summit High School FIRST Robotics Team #5468
-
Sep 2021 - Present
As a member of the robotics team, I am gaining valuable experience in the disciplines of mechanical and electrical engineering, physics, pneumatics, programming/coding, calculus, machining, business development and marketing. As the Head of Strategy, I am leading a group of students focusing on our goals for robot functionality and competition strategies for our team and alliance partners. Our team is made up of approximately 35 students. Team members specialize in one or several disciplines and cooperate to build a unique industrial-sized robot each season to compete in a complex game with and against other robots. We meet throughout the year putting in long hours to prepare for an intensive 8-16 week season depending on how far we advance. With the oversight of adult (volunteer) mentors, students do all the heavy lifting, from raising funds, to designing and building the robot, and ultimately competing in competitions. This is truly a team experience. 2023 Team Accomplishments: Advanced to PNW Championships Imagery Award Dean’s List Semi-Finalist Creativity Award Quality Award Woodie Flowers Finalist 2022 Team Accomplishments: Imagery Award (won at two separate events) Innovation in Control Award Show less

NOLS - 21 Day Backpacking Adventure Through Wyoming Big Horn Mountain Range
-
Jul 2021 - Aug 2021
On this course, I spent 21 days in the Big Horn Range with a group of strangers, where I found new experiences and places to explore every day. I climbed high ridges and summited peaks carved by glaciers. I went fly fishing and learned about local ecology on clear, blue lakes. I woke up in the morning to cook breakfast for my group on a camp stove, and fell asleep listening to marmots whistle and wind blowing through lodgepole pines. As we traveled from camp to camp, almost exclusively off-trail, we did all these things and more while learning the skills to live comfortably in the wilderness. On top of these outdoor skills, practicing leadership was the main focus of this course. We worked on skills like communication, decision making, and risk management as we met new challenges, such as choosing a route or resolving a dispute. Those were the experiences that helped us find our unique leadership styles. I'll draw on these experiences for the rest of my life. Show less
