The support I received from Jack was second to none, he went out of his way to find the physical requirements and fundamental movements needed for cricketers (ME). Very quickly I started to notice the transfer of skills from the gym to a cricket field, whether that is being able to hit the ball further due to having a stronger base (which was developed by working on my squats and lunges), or being able to run faster for the quicker singles. Jack understood the fact that I was a novice and consequently was very patient. However, Jack was always quick to think on his feet and changed the program according to my needs whether something was too easy or too hard. I liked the fact that Jack never minded being challenged on his programs and was more than happy to explain why certain things were incorporated, I loved the endless discussions we had. My relationship with Jack developed from a coach to a strong friendship, that’s pure because Jack understands the value of understanding the athlete and how people best learn. 3 Years on from when I first met Jack, I remain a student of his which just goes to show how much I trust his expertise.

I began working with Jack when I started college at 16, I was playing Rugby for Somerset and England TDG but had no experience of S+C coaching involving weights. Jack built the foundations for me to lifting weights safely and effectively allowing me to get the best out of myself in the gym, this resulted in me being able to bench press 100kg at the age of 16. Jack had an excellent understanding of not only rugby but women's rugby and female athletes which massively contributed to my continual development. He was very invested and supportive to me and we always take extra time to do rugby specific skills or any extra gym/running work with me. He was also always there for a chat whether to with my rugby or life in general and he got to know me as a person which made me want to push myself even more because of how much he invested in me. After the 2 years he coached me I had been selected to play in the women's premiership and played my first game for them at the age of 17, at this age I also was selected to represent the England U20's and was putting up the highest numbers in the gym out of that particular group, my speed testing also improved over my time being coached by Jack. I owe huge amounts of my continuing success to Jack as he built my strength and conditioning base and helped with my development as a player, not only did he get me started with the basics he always had a progressions for me and I never felt as though I plateaued , he kept me engaged mentally and we would often share and discuss sporting books. I will never be able to thank Jack enough as not only is he an excellent coach he is also a such a nice person and friend to have.

Program lead for female rugby, netball, table tennis, cricket, American football and golf. Program for national standard athletes in female rugby, American football, netball and table tennis. Program priorities: design, implement and monitor performance preparation, resistance training, energy system conditioning and exercise recovery programs across said sports. Co-ordinate with the sports therapist team to appropriately apply late stage return to play programming for returning injured athletes. Term time, weekly, performance and readiness/wellness monitoring of said athletes (including SJ, CMJ, online self-analysis surveys) with data feeding straight to myself to predict injury/immune system dysfunction (cough, cold etc.). I can therefore modify training plans with the respective coach for the team/individual. Testing battery typically included: speed gate testing, opto jump (application and software analysis), WATT bike power output, yoyo (intermittent recovery test) L1/2, 1200m aerobic test, COD (perceptual-cognitive and physical qualities), screening, skinfold body fat %, max strength testing, modified power testing (isometric mid-thigh pull) and postural analysis. Term time, CPD for sports academy staff, in the form of an article, surrounding topics related to sports coaching and physical performance. Most recently in how we as coaches can create distinction and assess both change of direction and agility to create a profile on a given individual. I have also provided a detailed literature review on contemporary methods surrounding motivational climate for the athlete. Show less

DPP (12-16) physical literacy program design: compound movement quality and sprint mechanics training for individuals in the transition program from DPP to PDG. PDG (14-18) LTAD program design: considering PHV (growth and maturational status) strength, power, stamina, mobility, bio-energetic bio-motors. Liaise with academy coaching and medical team regarding player management (progression/regression up the development pathway. PDG athlete testing and data collection for athletic profiling and exercise prescription during both peak and non-peak phases. Match day performance preparation and during-game physical activation and potentiation for substitutes to U16’s and U18’s. Also, during game periods, I monitored hydration intake (glucose vs H2o) and promoted recovery strategies (contrast water therapy, compression garments, active recovery) to reduce onset of muscle soreness and inevitable later performance reductions. When called upon by the sport and exercise department of the University of Gloucestershire, I performed term time lectures to 2nd year undergraduate students, in the absence of the course leader. Modules I have covered include the concept of power production and its application to sporting performance. I have also covered youth athletic development and the considerations surrounding physical development (growth and maturation) and its effect on key fitness components (strength, stamina, mobility etc.). Upon completion of these lectures I provided suggested reading for further learning as well as contemporary models used by professional governing bodies for athletic development (LTAD, YPD, and CYD) and determining which model would fit best for a given individual in their sport/environment. To support theoretical learning, I also conducted practical sessions in both the performance gym and sports hall for both modules. Students were instructed to use the information provided by myself in the setting I had set for each group. Students dispersed into their respective groups to practice their learnings and were challenged to be creative but constructive in designing their program to the given scenario. Once completed all students came back together as a group and were instructed to coach their session and review at the end (check and challenge the session) by their respective peers. This maximized learning and enabled participants to appreciate each other justifications for their selected session. Show less
