From being a camper and meeting lifelong friends, to becoming a staff member and teaching the values and initiative-mentality to the younger generation--- camp is a core part of the man I am today. The two major reasons why I am thankful for camp are no secret: The first would be for the ‘family’ and lifelong connections that I’ve made. Growing up without any siblings, I’m sure I gave my mother a few headaches in our small apartment in NYC. Without much guidance or help, camp was the perfect environment for a crash course on socializing with people from different backgrounds. Many of those people that I met over 18 years ago I now call my brothers and sisters because of the camp experiences we’ve shared. I am truly thankful for my camp family. The second reason is for the core values and character that I learned at Incarnation, which is to be your self. It sounds like an after-school-special motto, but it is something that camp really brings out of you. At the end of the day when the person next to you is just as muddy and wet from running through the woods as you, and tired from the activities, there is no energy left to put on a mask. I’m just as raw as the person next to me and maybe sometimes a little unfiltered. But that taught me how to stand out by being myself rather than trying to fit in. I just didn’t have the energy, and it stuck with me throughout my career and life overall. I will forever be grateful for that and all the other experiences camp gave me. I try to give back as much as I can so that someone else can have that experience." - Jermaine Braumuller, Alumni and Staff Member
