I started as an intern on a placement sandwich year from my university - my contract has since been extended and I am due to continue working full time while I complete my degree from work placement. I have worked on NFS Unbound and a currently unannounced project. I have mostly worked with Frostbite and in-house tools during my time at Criterion. Learning specialist software has been a learning curve with a lot of value for me. Representing the university for open days, taster days and other events such as the Manchester Create Your Future UCAS exhibition. These roles largely involved talking about my course, other creative courses and the university's resources as a whole. I really enjoyed talking about my experiences studying at university on this course and it was a great opportunity to talk to prospective students and build communication and explanation skills. 2 weeks filling in for laboratory technician on leave, maintaining the entomology laboratory. This included feeding, collecting eggs and monitoring a variety of pests including flies, cockroaches, moths etc. I also did some data entry and coded an iRobot Create 2 (programmable robot vacuum) to follow a manual pathway in python for use in an innovation trial for picking up fleas. 2 weeks filling in for laboratory technician on leave, maintaining the entomology laboratory. Temporary ice rink role. Exchanging shoes for ice skates and selling skate aids at the Pier Head temporary rink. Worked under high pressure as returns for people exiting the rink and exchanges for people entering the rink happened concurrently. Marshalled on the ice during quiet hours. Marshalled on the ice slide that consisted of a steep iced slope that dingey rings would be pushed down- this consisted of ensuring the safety of participants and spectators and communicating effectively with colleagues.
