Shelter and Housing Intern
-
Sep 2022 - May 2023
During my time as Housing and Shelter Intern with HAVEN, I used my interpersonal, advocacy, and organizational skills to accomplish a number of tasks and provide support to survivors of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Some tasks I was responsible for included accompanying survivors of domestic and sexual violence to court, police offices, shelter sites, and hospitals and offering support and local resources as needed. I was also responsible for following up with several clients concerning housing by discussing public, private, and non-profit housing options. I had the opportunity to learn how to input and organize confidential client information and records into the Vela documentation system as well as implement, facilitate, and lead an 8-step Rent Smart program into shelter programming to assist clients in reaching financial stability. My crisi intervention skills were utilized when answering hotline calls and providing emotional support to clients in crisis. Lastly, I got to manage and provide specific and personalized casework to shelter clients implemented through weekly meetings. Show less
