I managed the Collision Center, including writing new estimates and contacting the customer's insurance company to facilitate claims and determine policy payments. My experience in Service Writing, both Collision and Mechanical was beneficial in my work there. Our shop worked on all makes and models of vehicles, and we have done many extensive collision repairs including complete replacement of front ends, sectioning panels, and even rust abatement while in my time there. I was front of house doing the estimating for significant repairs, including co-ordinating with sometimes (obtuse) insurance adjusters, and dealing with customers who were, shall we say, difficult! On the down times, I ran the rental center and worked with the office manager to keep our systems running smoothly with IT support where needed, and a simple filing slave wherever else! The company did not need to hire an outside IT tech as long as I was there. Show less

Started with managing a team of about 500 people who would eventually become the core of my team. Trained them in individual and group settings to the standards of the USCB. As the Census Bureau ramped up their hiring, I developed methods for training, acquired training sites to accommodate the number of people, and oversaw the training myself for about 10,000 census takers. After training, i personally met with groups of trainees to confirm that they understood their training, and then handed them off to their local team leaders and supervisors. Every trainee was given the opportunity to contact their supervisors and go above that level as needed. Thanks to feedback from those workers, I was able to make decisions about middle management that needed to be eliminated. By being clear and concise about expectations, these wonderful workers did not have to tolerate a biased manager. Show less

I had several roles during this time, starting with some basic secretarial duties. At the end, I was fully responsible for maintaining a full mailing list of all patrons and possible patrons during the zip-code crisis of the late 90's, where all addresses required a ZIP+4 to be calculated at the lower postage rate. While also maintaining the design and printing of the entire department, I designed a small program that would update the mailing lists to the new standard. Therefore all my printing was A-OK, and was sent out regularly to our beloved audiences. In the meantime, I was begging the staff to send me photos to send to the lovely audiences. Show less

During the transition to more user-friendly PC's, I often built PC's and trained new users on Windows-based systems. Generally would provide about 20 hours of support for new users with a new PC build, to educate them on how to use basic functions like printing, accessing the internet, and some basic security protocols to keep them safe in the future. More advanced clients were set up with servers and LAN or WLAN networks, with the same proviso of network safety. During this time I aslo sub-contracted for General Motors in Ontario Ohio working with their mainframe IBM computers. Tasks were installing, upgrading, and maintaining IBM Mainframe computers such as to 3036 and 2026 frame lines, and installing new CLABS to keep up with memory needed and jumpering to existing networks.
