This role encompasses all sorts of challenges, as a team we look after 100's of desktops and dozens of servers and ultimately I'm responsible for making sure they're reliable, safe and secure. We've made the transition from a simple "break-fix" type of arrangement to much more of a "managed services" type of provision - and that includes DSL lines, managed routers, managed WiFi, constant health monitoring of all systems, embedded anti-virus, patch management across many different customer sites. It also involves exploring, evaluating, understanding, deploying, servicing and management of newer technologies - be that VMWare, MDM or business intelligence reporting systems.Overall the role is summed up by the following: It's my role to make sure we pick and deploy robust and reliable technologies to give customers very high uptimes, great support and good advice on the next technical steps they ought to be considering.
