Ivan Rodionov taught me a course in Chemical Kinetics at St. Petersburg State University in 2020. In my opinion, he is the best teacher I have ever met. My opinion was also shared by other students, since Ivan was repeatedly recognized as the best teacher of the year according to surveys among the Institute of Chemistry. What sets him apart from other teachers is his extremely strong passion for work. Probably 70% of his teaching activity is his personal initiative. He has written excellent lecture notes and develops them every year, publishes his lectures on YouTube (what helped a lot during the lockdown), comes up with interesting tasks for seminars, and is constantly looking for new formats to interest and teach students. Although his course is far beyond my scientific interests, I turned out to be excited in mastering it. The reason is that I love challenges, and Ivan offers a lot of them. For instance, he posts thought-provoking problems and questions concerning course materials and invites students and graduates to solve them. #KineticsChallenge organized by Ivan deserves special attention. This is a voluntary competition where students have to record a video with a solution to a problem they invented or found (within the course). This way, mastering the Chemical Kinetics became a unique experience during my bachelor program. The quality of the obtained knowledge was high as well, because Ivan taught to think deeply, understand the point and limitations of existing models, be able to derive the key equations and apply them for the real experiments. Communication has never been a problem either. You could always ask a question and quickly get a detailed complete answer. If the question turned out to be difficult, Ivan did not try to reply in general phrases, but took his time and prepared an answer for the next conversation. This is what I really appreciated. In addition, Ivan has critical thinking and high intelligence. He constantly improves himself and his lectures and applies all the technical resources for the effective presentation. I sincerely think that any education system needs such people as Ivan Rodionov.

Ivan was my high school teacher in chemistry. He is really talented to explain tough material in easy words and make everyone understand. I must admit that his chemistry lessons were among the major reasons for me to choose life sciences for my future career
