I upgraded my arrangement with Yellowtom.co.uk from Area Developer to Master Franchisor with a ten year contract and in February 2015 bought a controlling interest in the parent company . Such is my belief in the Yellowtom system. In September 2013 Yellowtom introduced web building and online video to the services offered. More and more customers are moving to Yellowtom for their online listings, descriptions etc as we now have proof of success, client testimonials and more and more repeat business. A new updated website went live in August 2015 combining search, social and email marketing plus blogging and our increasingly relevant offers facility. Show less

Having purchased the Area Developer's licence in August 2008 , I set about establishing a network of Yellowtom Franchisees each designated a District Council area. After four years and having established profitable franchisee models I then decided to take a 10 year term with a further 10 year option as Master Franchisee in both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. Company founder responsible for all store openings, fit out, marketing and branding. Established a system to ensure duplication in all aspects of all 24 stores offering and reporting procedures.. Employed 150 people . Also biggest operator of indoor tanning facilities and retailer of tanning and weight loss products. Business went into liquidation in April 2008 and I was disqualified from being a company director for eight years. So I know the pluses and minuses of running your own business, however I always accepted the " buck stops here " , and we learn from our experiences. Show less

Opened the first 60 stores Xtravision had in Northern Ireland. Found the sites for new stores and negotiated buy out of local stores. Actively worked with the advertising agency to make Xtravision a brand in Northern Ireland. Partner and Founder of Spectrum Video in Ballymena. Developed the first professionally designed video rental library in Northern Ireland and then added a branch in Ballymoney and a further one in Antrim. These were the first stores Xtravision plc bought when they expanded in to Northern Ireland in 1989 confirming our belief that these were the best performing stores in the country. So taken was the Xtravsion shareholders with the layout and performance of the Spectrum Video stores that I was appointed MD of Xtravision Northern Ireland Ltd and they adapted our design in preference to what they already had in their initial 60 stores in the Republic of Ireland. Spectrum Sunbeds developed from having a solarium above our first video rental store to us being the original and biggest sunbed rental company in Northern Ireland. At our peak we had 365 sunbeds rented on short term rental to homes all over Northern Ireland. Spectrum Sunbeds also sold almost 90% of all the commercial sunbeds in Northern Ireland supplying the hair and beauty trade and setting up stand alone tanning salons. That business was sold in 1990 as I couldn't combine running it and being MD at Xtravsion. Show less

My first business was a free sheet newspaper titled Mid Antrim Trading Guide. Delivered to 25,000 homes monthly by Royal Mail. Having no sales or business experience this was a great grounding in B2B in both disciplines. This was also a new concept in advertising for local traders. I sold this business a year or so after opening Spectrum Video to concentrate on developing the video rental business. This business carried on in to the 90's under different owners.
