The Spokane Alliance is a non-partisan and non-profit alliance of congregations, unions, student and community groups in Spokane County representing over 20,000 adults. The Alliance is an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), the nation’s first and largest community organizing network. We meet people face-to-face and build relationships that create the capacity in a community for leadership development, citizen-led action and strong relationships across the lines that often divide our communities.Spokane Alliance is a multi-issue organization. The issues we work on come from within our institutions, from the concerns of the people. We cross economic, faith and neighborhood lines to find common ground and act on our values. We develop the diverse voices of our community, building relationships across religion, race, class, and neighborhood lines. Together new community leaders build power to make the positive changes we want to see in our region.

AmeriCorps is a federal program that places more than 75,000 men and women in intensive service each year to help communities tackle pressing problems while mobilizing millions for the organizations they serve. Through their service, these members gain valuable professional experience, educational benefits, and civic awareness. This experience has a lasting impact on the members serving, as well as the communities in which they serve. This summer I am serving under Americorp's American Conservation Experience at Mount Rainier National Park. Our mission is to provide rewarding environmental service opportunities that harness the idealism and energy of a labor force to help restore America’s public lands. ACE is grounded in the philosophy that cooperative labor on meaningful conservation projects fosters cross-cultural understanding and operates on the belief that challenging volunteer service unites people of all backgrounds in a common cause.
