I spent my placement year working as part of the European Marketing team working as a Marketing Communications Assistant. Working from Agilent’s UK Centre of Excellence in Cheadle, Cheshire I was involved with the Life Sciences & Chemical Analysis division. Working as a Marketing Communications Assistant alongside the Country Marcom for UK & Ireland I was tasked with helping to organise the many events that Agilent attend and host each year. Across my year with Agilent I worked on just over 100 events ranging from large international conferences to small customer seminars. No matter how big or small the event was I was required to do a large amount of planning including contacting the meeting organisers to secure exhibition space and sponsorship packages. For events that we hosted ourselves it was my responsibility to research and book venues to host our seminars. Having such a big role in booking sponsorship and exhibition space meant that I was having to keep track of the budget for each event and ensure all invoices and costs were received, paid and recorded in both spread sheets and Agilent’s online system. From the very beginning I was project managing a new electronic feedback solution that was to be used at all Agilent events. Working with the developers of the app from the start I held weekly meetings with everyone involved to ensure that the project was on track and meeting the tight deadlines we set. This was a continuing project that was constantly evolving until we got our final version that provided us with the best way of collection customer feedback and lead generation from events. I was involved from the development stage through to its rollout to all Country Marcoms across Europe. This role saw me work with a number of different people across each business area in Agilent such as product specialists, sales teams and marketing managers. I had a good understanding of each of their roles in order to meet their needs and ensure a successful event.
