    • Head of Narrative and Framing
      • Jan 2023 - Present

I support activists and civil servants promoting human rights, environmental protection and social justice to communicate more persuasively with public audiences. The approach I apply is referred to variously as narrative change, (values-based) framing and strategic communications. This approach is built on academic research from the brain sciences and the lessons learnt from its practical application to real world campaigning, where it has been implemented successfully to shift public opinion in favour of progressive causes and win campaigns. The types of organisations I work with include campaign groups, philanthropic foundations, governmental donors, inter-governmental organisations, national human rights institutes, government departments, universities and media outlets. I use a variety of tools to support organisations to learn and apply persuasive communications:- Tailored training and mentoring- Reviewing an organisation's messaging- Co-developing messaging for campaigns and general communications- Producing online courses and messaging guides Show less

    • Head of Advocacy
      • Apr 2017 - Jan 2023

Until 2019 my main role was advocacy towards the EU in an effort to persuade the EU to better protect fundamental rights, the rule of law and democracy. Since 2019 I spend most of my time supporting organisations promoting progressive causes to communicate more persuasively, while continuing to manage the work of the advocacy team at Liberties. This includes scientific editing of policy papers, developing advocacy strategies and contributing to Liberties' organisational strategy.
