  During university holidays, I work a paid full time job as a server at my local pub. However, I had to balance this alongside university studies this summer as some of my modules were impacted by COVID-19, helping me to learn effective time management and become more organised and efficient. My duties include working on and around the bar, running food, taking payments and occasionally helping in the kitchen when the restaurant is busy, meaning I have to adapt quickly. The customer service aspect of this job, involving meeting and interacting with new people everyday, means I am a confident individual with great communication skills. Working in a people-orientated environment as part of a team is a crucial part of the job and has made me open and has given me teamwork skills which I have further used and retained through group projects at university. Another part of my job involves designing new blackboards for in-house advertisements as well as taking photos for the pub's Instagram account, enabling me to develop social media and creative skills.   During Summer 2020, I took part in the Nottingham Consultancy Challenge, which is usually an in-person task but had moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While this was harder as I find things much easier face-to-face, it gave me experience at working remotely and using software such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom. I also took part in presentation workshops; the skills I learned enabled me to successfully deliver a presentation at the end of the internship about my project to a team of Senior Partners. As I was about to begin studying Chemical Engineering at UoN, I spoke to the relevant people and was able to spend time in the Environmental Engineering department, learning about many new topics from weather profiling to effects of seismic activity; the skills I developed have already proved invaluable during my degree.
