During my time with Maples, I was placed in the litigation department. This gave me huge exposure to the workings of the department, as well as providing a wealth of one on one time with trainees, associates and partners alike. Throughout my time with the litigation team, I was asked to work on various cases by preparing judgement summaries, writing notes on board minutes and identifying and compiling data on other relevant cases. My initial responsibilities included tasks such as printing, scanning, filing, emailing, letter correspondence management and shredding. My ECDL qualification often proved useful in this role. As I progressed in this role, I became responsible for comparative portfolio analysis using Financial Express, analysing and selecting potential client funds and creating overviews of KYC paperwork for advisors. I also did legal consultancy work, specifically in relation to contracts, wills and inheritance. I trained staff in inheritance law and created a check list system which enabled staff to understand their clients’ basic rights, under either testacy or intestacy.
