The present study utilizes a synergistic approach of satellite data and a coupled bio-physical model to investigate the spatial and temporal variability of physical and biological parameters in the Indian Ocean (IO). Long-term simulations from a coupled Modular Ocean Model and TOPAZ model from 1982 to 2016 were employed, and the results were validated using satellite and climatological datasets to assess the model's accuracy in simulating oceanic features. The primary objective of the study was to comprehend the coupled interaction between biological and physical parameters that govern the primary productivity of IO. By understanding the variability of chlorophyll-a, highly productive regions of the IO were identified, and an in-depth analysis was conducted to understand the primary productivity variability in these areas. The study also examined the inter-annual variability of chlorophyll and sea surface temperature in the highly productive regions from 1998 to 2016, revealing unique behavior for these parameters over time. Additionally, an empirical formula was used to compute total alkalinity from sea surface temperature and salinity, and its variability was analyzed over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. The study further explored the inter-annual variability of oil sardine for the Indian coasts and investigated the impact of changing ocean scenarios on this fish population. Show less
