A two week placement at Hot FM radio saw me producing a radio package daily whilst under a strict deadline. This improved my efficiency and ability to quickly adapt and change angles where they didn't work. • The Bath Chronicle
    • Bath, United Kingdom
    • Reporter
      • Jan 2012 - Jan 2012

This placement was a great way to put into practise what I had learnt during the first 18 months of my degree. The Bath Chronicle is a weekly local paper, therefore proved a completely different experience to that at the Daily Telegraph. I was given a lot of responsibility during this placement. My roles included doing vox pops and interviews, taking pictures, researching news articles and writing news articles and features. I worked efficiently and completed my stories to a professional quality, taking on board what I had learnt throughout my degree. I also provided new stories which I thought would be of interest to The Chronicle's readership - using my initiative to research and interview for these stories before finally publishing them. The placement gave me a real insight into a newsroom environment, with a great deal of responsibility meaning I was a reporter for the week - not just an intern. Show less

My placement here was pivotal in gaining an understanding of how such a vast newsroom functions on a daily basis. I was given roles which demanded a large amount of responsibility - from researching and interviewing to transcribing interviews. Accuracy was essential, therefore my acute sense of grammar and spelling was essential here. It was an honour to work at such an organisation and see how decisions were made at the top and also at a local level.
