I was a founding member of Avolve, a project of Enactus Exeter which works to improve the academic and employment prospects of looked after children. I held the position of Social Secretary, in addition to leading the Young Person’s Panel team. As Social Secretary, I organised several fundraising events, and have sent a team of six, including myself, to compete in Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest in London in November 2015, for which we raised over £1,200 for Avolve. From 2015-2016 I led a team of students in setting up a feedback panel of looked after children, Avolve members and professionals aimed at identifying and discussing areas for improvement within Avolve. I planned and ran weekly Panel team meetings, as well as giving a summary of the team’s progress in weekly Avolve committee meetings. My involvement in Avolve has given me experience of close team working and leadership. Show less

I volunteered once a week at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum as a Visitor Guide. As part of this role, I welcome new visitors to the museum, as well as offer information and help to visitors in and around the museum. Working in the museum has furthered my passion for learning and gaining new knowledge. I volunteered once a week at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum as a Visitor Guide. I worked for four months with international students at INTO Universtiy of Exeter as part of the student services and events team. This role required me to both plan and run events, such as day trips to Oxford and Dartmouth. My position as an events supervisor enabled me to gain confidence as a leader, and required me to be organised and pay close attention to detail. Through this role, I also gained experience in many administrative tasks, such as writing risk assessments and updating the budget spreadsheets. Another aspect of this position was working in the Accommodation blocks, where I assisted with student arrivals and departures. As part of this I met and worked with a diverse range of people, which increased my ability to communicate effectively. Over the four months, I also worked on several projects, including feedback reports and statistical reports, both of which required me to process and analyse large amounts of data and present my findings in written reports. Working as a shop assistant enabled me to gain confidence talking to customers, as well as working efficiently and in a professional manner. I would often work on my own, which required me to manage the shop throughout the day and cash up at the end. I also gained experience in how to react in difficult situations, such as customer complaints, during which my strong sense of justice and ability to remain level-headed were valuable. • Summer Camp Volunteer
      • Jul 2015 - Jul 2015

I travelled to India to volunteer with Pod Volunteer for two weeks during my summer vacation because I wanted to gain a practical experience of a different culture whilst working with people to make a difference. I worked with a team of volunteers in Udaipur, India, teaching English and running activities for children from a school, an orphanage, a ragpicker community and a school for disabled children. Working in a team of three, I had to plan and deliver lessons to children aged 7-9 which lasted for four hours. Through this rewarding opportunity I have developed my ability to communicate effectively, even with children who do not speak the same language. This experience also fuelled my interest in learning about different cultures, people and places. Show less
