Looking to move into a town planning career, I initially joined the Council on a 2-year contract, working as a Technical Administrator for the Major Projects planning team, supporting the Longcross Garden Village pre-application as well as several other major development schemes. In addition to gaining an understanding of local planning authority processes, my responsibilities expanded to include a separate applications caseload and for the last 15 months I was also seconded to the Planning Policy team, undertaking: • Liaising with Natural England and the Green Space team to designate a new strategic SANG (Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace) within the Borough • Rewriting the Council’s Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area Avoidance and Mitigation Strategy Supplementary Planning Document (SPD); modifying the tariff calculation methodology • Project managing production of a Green & Blue Infrastructure SPD, from procurement to first draft • Determining 300+ minor development and conditions applications, negotiating with a range of stakeholders • Managing the Planning Performance Agreement payment process • Organising a series of workshops for a diverse range of key stakeholders on topics such as green and blue infrastructure; flooding and drainage; energy and utilities; transport and travel
