Bread is a wonderful, ancient food that humans have been eating in some form for probably 10000 years or more. Wholemeal sourdough provides all major nutrients, minerals and vitamins, therefore making it one of the few foods one could live off exclusively without suffering major nutrient deficiencies. Yet most people's daily bread barely meets the most basic definitions of food. Fast made, mass produced and full or artificial ingredients that maximise the profit of the producer and the supermarkets, this type of white fluff has no real nutritional value and also severely impacts our gut microbiota and in the long term overall health outcomes. At Bread & Butter Bakery we therefore focus on traditional, slow sourdough fermentation, organic ingredients and handmade pastries, cakes and savouries. We aim to source our ingredients locally, (insofar as that is possible in New Zealand) .
