I provided care to a high standard, while maintaining a high degree of professionalism, kindness and empathy. I gave personal care to residents who required it, which included bathing, incontience care, getting them out of bed and clothing them. I was trained in manual handling and first aid so I could assist in moving residents safely and comfortably, and could provide emergency first aid if needed. Mental illness was common in the home, so mental illness training was provided so I knew how to provide care to those with varying degrees of mental illness ranging from anxiety and depression, to borderline personality disorder and schizophrenia. I assisted one individual to their Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) treatment to help her symtpoms of bipolar depression. Dementia and alzheimers were also common in the home and adequate training was provided to ensure I understood how dementia can portray differently in residents, and how to act accordingly. I was trained in dispensing medication to residents in the home too which required a high responsibility. I carried out palliative care to individuals who were nearing the end of their lives.
