Sep 2018 - Present
Full-time QC laboratory employee responsible for testing physical and chemical properties of finished products. tests performed on polymer additives include melt index, specific gravity, moisture content, percent solid components and film dispersion. Colour samples produced by injection moulder were analyzed using bench-top spectrometer to check if colour agrees with customer specs. Process additives were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively using Fourier Transform Infrared spectrometer (FTIR) to determine if chemical components were present in desired amounts. All test results were entered in QC database as well as kept physically on file, and tested products with specs were approved for release to customer. Incoming certificates of analysis for new raw materials were inspected, approved and entered in appropriate database when required.

Laboratory Technician - Geochemistry

Jul 2018 - Sep 2018
Full-time contract position in a mineral analysis instrumentation laboratory (ISO 17025 certified). As a geochem lab tech, I operated Perkin Elmer Optima inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometers (ICP-OES) to analyze ore samples for base metals and precious metals. This required accurate preparation of standards, sample matrix and acid rinses while prioritizing safety. Highly concentrated samples were diluted. Results were entered in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) while being checked for possible errors.

Jan 2018 - Apr 2018
Completed 80 hour placement as required by the Chemical Engineering Technology program at Durham College. As the Laboratory Technology Assistant, I performed maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment including vacuum pumps, UV lamps and heat pumps. To prepare new lab equipment for operation, I wrote and tested standard operating procedures for a heat exchanger and fluid trainer. I also assisted in designing an experiment to be performed by future students. 5S methodology was implemented to keep the lab organized and in working order.

Research Assistant position as part of Memorial Undergraduate Career Experience Program (MUCEP). My role was to assist in establishing a chemical database by retrieving information from online sources and calculating thermodynamic quantities for many different chemicals including entropies and enthalpies of formation. This data was processed and organized in Excel spreadsheets. Research Assistant position as part of Memorial Undergraduate Career Experience Program (MUCEP). As a chemical technician, I prepared resin for upcoming orders on two large extruders (~450 kg/hr output) producing polycarbonate thermoplastics. I was responsible for obtaining and mixing resin, pigment and lubricant in an industrial mixer while adhering to LOTO safety guidelines. Orders were on a dynamic schedule that would often change throughout the shift. I maintained a clean and organized workspace for upcoming shifts and delivered mixed floaters to line operators.
