In my role as research associate at the Wellesley Centers for Women I work collaboratively with colleagues on social science research projects that can bring change to the world, and make the world a better place for women, men, and their families. I learn something new every day. Recently my focus has been on women's leadership in resident theaters in the U.S. My colleague Sumru Erkut and I finished a study on this topic and published a report on our findings in 2016. We also discuss one finding of this work in a Harvard Business Review article, https://hbr.org/2018/01/unpredictable-schedules-disproportionately-hurt-womens-careers. This piece touches on an important equity issue in workplaces, namely that women's careers are affected by their dual role as caregiver in their families juggling work responsibilities. I hope to work further on advocating for and researching the ways that theaters, and other institutions, can support families in their work-life balance. Other current work is centered around communication within families around sexual health and how that can support teens' decision making, with Jenny Grossman; and the role of social media use in young adolescents' development, with Linda Charmaraman.
