I had the opportunity to assemble a Microdialysis Set-up, a minimally-invasive sampling technique measuring continuously free, unbound analyte concentrations in the extracellular fluid in free behaving rodents. Once the technique was functioning I investiagted the dopaminergic tone in the striatum (nucleus accumbens) during a motivation task in a mouse model for schizophrenia. I also worked on motivation based decision making processes in the same mouse model by means of electrophysiology. The work was funded by a postdoctoral stipend of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

I planned and conducted experimental studies to investigate memory processes in the honeybee brain by means of extracellular recordings of single neurons. Funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the German Academic Exchange Service I had the chance to conduct research at the Institute for Statistical Neuroscience, Brain Science Institute, RIKEN, Japan. My work focussed on the plasticity and multisensory integration of feedback neurons in the mushroom body during classical conditiong.
