  SIHO ondersteunt de Vlaamse hogescholen en universiteiten bij het verbeteren van de participatie van studenten met functiebeperkingen. SIHO informeert de hoger onderwijsinstellingen over de meest recente regelgeving, ondersteunt hen om een beleidsplan uit te werken, en ontwikkelt materiaal om de hoger onderwijsinstellingen te helpen om hun inclusief beleid in de praktijk om te zetten. SIHO speelt ook een rol in het informeren en sensibiliseren van de bredere samenleving over inclusief hoger onderwijs. SIHO organiseert vormingen, ontmoetingsdagen, geeft advies op maat en biedt informatie aan via haar website, Facebookpagina en nieuwsbrief. De sterkte van het SIHO is dat alle vijf associaties van universiteiten en hogescholen hun krachten bundelen om samen inclusief hoger onderwijs te realiseren. Show less

  As head of the department of Social Studies of Leuven University College I have, together with my team, the responsibility of all the core processes of the department: education, research and services. In the department we have 3 accredited programmes: the bachelor of social work, the bachelor of social readaptation sciences and the bachelor-after-bachelor international co-operation North-South. We also have a myriad of life long learning programmes, which have different focuses: e.g. social mediation, family mediation, mindfulness, … Our research is practice oriented and has two main focal points: social entrepreneurship and active citizenship. In those two domains we develop relevant and innovative research but also life long learning programmes and services for people, organisations and governments. It is also my responsibility to implement and develop the HR-policy of Leuven University College in the department and to maintain the budget that is allotted to the department. As Leuven University College is in a merger with the Catholic Limburg University College and Group T University College I have, as a member of the executive committee, also a responsibility towards this merger. As head of the department I thus move in the different levels of the university college: the programmes, the department, the university college and our partners.   During my time as tutor I was also required to write a PhD. I did this on William Trumbull, a Jacobean diplomat who stayed at the court in Brussels between 1605 and 1625. In the course of my research I spent many weeks in London (doing research in the National Archives and the British Library.I gave several lectures (national and international), most noteworthy is the lecture I gave in the Palace of Westminster on the fallout of the Gunpowder Plot in the Southern Netherlands.
