It is a pleasure to see how much Monowar has achieved. He was one of my star students at Westminster College, Oxford. I am more than happy to commend his inter-personal , time-management and leadership skills. What I particularly want to say is that he is committed to making the world a better place for everyone, across races, religions and national identities because he sees all people as equally human, and as children of the One God. Many of my former students are now Christian clergy; several of my former Muslim students went on to postgraduate study but Monowar is the only one who is now a qualified Imam. He is also the only one to become a Deputy Lieutenant of a County. I am enormously proud of him, though I have no reason to claim any credit!

Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) is a world renowned centre of clinical excellence and one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the UK. The Trust is made up of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital (which includes the Children's Hospital, West Wing, Eye Hospital, Heart Centre and Women's Centre), the Churchill Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, all located in Oxford, and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury, north Oxfordshire. We provide a wide range of clinical services, specialist services (including cardiac, cancer, musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation) medical education, training and research. Most services are provided in our hospitals, but over six percent are delivered from 44 other locations across the region, and some in patients' homes. My role is to work with the Chaplaincy team and colleagues from across the disciplines to deliver excellence in service and delivery to patients', staff and visitors to OUH. In particular, to advise on policy to senior management and also to provide spiritual and pastoral support to patients' and staff. Show less

The History of Science Museum houses an unrivalled collection of historic scientific instruments in the world’s oldest surviving purpose-built museum building, the Old Ashmolean on Broad Street, Oxford. By virtue of the collection and the building, the Museum occupies a special position, both in the study of the history of science and in the development of Western culture and collecting. The present collection preserves the material of past science. As a department of the University of Oxford, the Museum has a role both in making this material available for study by historians, and presenting it to the visiting public. Approximately 20,000 objects cover almost all aspects of the history of science, from antiquity to the early 1900s. Particular strengths include the collections of astrolabes, sundials and early mathematical instruments, together with apparatus associated with chemistry, medicine, and communications. In addition, the Museum possesses a unique reference library for the study of the history of scientific instruments that includes manuscripts, prints and early photographic material. Show less

WCF has been leading the way in building a community of individuals who want to create and enjoy the benefits of interfaith dialogue since 1936. In the early days its slogan was 'Faith Meeting Faith: a rich resource for life', and this still holds true. The Oxford Muslim College has been established to advance Islamic Studies infused with the spiritual vision of Nisbat Rasuli. Our vision is guided by the fact that we do not consider ourselves as foreigners living in a foreign land but British citizens, born and nurtured in the United Kingdom. Our teaching and all that we do will reflect two major strands that have shaped and influenced my religious outlook. First, is to build on the scholarly legacy of my late mentor and teacher, Shaykh Dr. Zaki Badawi KBE (1922-2006). This means to recognise that the world we inhabit is plural, and secular, with religion being one option amongst a number of choices. We therefore need Muslim faith leaders who understand this context and have a grounding in western thought that provides the underpinning of modern man's outlook. Therefore, we seek to cultivate rigorous and critical engagement with Islamic studies, so that the Muslim faith leaders graduating from Oxford Muslim College represent the highest standards of scholarship. Second, for the last two hundred plus years, there has been a sustained attack by a plethora of reform and now terrorist movements on the 'heart of Islam' - Sufism. Our spiritual vision is shaped and informed by Nisbat Rasuli - one of the largest and most significant sufi spiritual orders in the world. We take the view that in the contemporary world it is the teachings of the great spiritual masters, such as Shah Naqshband, Shaykh Muhyiddin ibn al-Arabi, Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani, Shaykh Muhyiddin Chishti, Hadhrat Pir Nazir Ahmad, and our Patron, His Holiness Pir Harun al-Rashid that must be imbued by Muslim faith leaders. Teachings that root the humanity of the other at their heart and the highest expression of Muslim leadership to be servants of their fellow human beings. We will seek to realise and embody in our lives and those whom we train as future Muslim faith leaders, the Sufi maxim: 'The other is my brother.' Show less
