During her internship in our Trendresearch Team Ilse asked me if she could do a little project additional to her official tasks! She started a design challenge on top – designing a temporary interference space. With only a little guidance from my side she developed a pretty nice seating concept for transition from home into autonomous cars. I really appreciated her highly motivated, calm but concentrated working style.

At the department of Human-Centered Design of the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, I was responsible for the research & design of the human-machine interface (HMI) of autonomous driving systems (as part of the European project MEDIATOR - https://mediatorproject.eu). The design of the human-machine interface (involving the behaviour of individual HMI components as well as the behaviour between HMI components), needed to facilitate two-way communication between driver and vehicle. Next to the user interface design, HMI components are integrated into the rest of the driver’s direct environment, to broaden the possibilities of abstract and concrete communication (stimulating multiple senses) during all levels of autonomous driving. In collaboration with several European Partners, virtual and on-road experiments are being conducted to evaluate the stand-alone HMI behaviour and if the collaboration of all HMI components enables clear communication about, for instance, mode-awareness and driver responsibility. In addition, I was involved in several educational activities: - Regular coach in supervisory teams of Msc interaction design graduation projects - Part of the teaching staff for Bsc courses (Automotive Minor-program, human-centered mobility courses, behavioural design and portfolio development) Show less

Research by design for interaction in shared autonomous vehicles. A project in the field of interaction in future mobility. I developed tools for stimulating interaction amongst passengers of shared (autonomous) vehicles. I applied these tools to design a future-oriented concept for the hydrofoil Seabubble in a case study of community sharing. Applying a visionary design method (the VIP approach); facilitating creative sessions and an iterative prototyping process by means of repeated testing with MVPs, lead to both the interaction toolkit as the concept-design. Intern at PIONEERING neXt - Society & Mobility department of Daimler AG This department focusses on the future and trend research in the development of future scenarios and innovations of mobility systems and vehicle concepts. I supported the design process of transferring (Society, Mobility, Technology and City-) trend-research into concepts by designing concepts and visualizing personas and story-boards. During this process I participated in several design-sprints. To build a feasible story around the personas I organised a creative workshop in which extreme scenarios were created with the help of several paradoxal trends combined. Simultaneously I lead my own design-project linking architecture and mobility in the future. The base of this project was set with the help of emotion-design techniques and society & mobility trends which helped me to design a concept that links indoor mobility with outdoor mobility while stimulating social interaction amongst community residents. • Competitor - Renault Design Award 2017
      • Jun 2017 - Nov 2017

Part of awarded duo of visionary concept design for Renault. Together with Evita Goettsch I participated in the Renault Design Award as Team 'Love' (The head of design Laurens van den Acker introduced 6 life cycles as part of the design strategy, Love is one of them). We designed a future-oriented 1,5 person car-concept, inspired on the romantic first encounter before falling in love. The asymmetrical car is able to transform into a symmetrical one when another car attaches; in this way the dating principle is facilitated while being on the road. It's a design to fill the gap of the Renault "Love" concept cars DeZir and TreZor, which both present the other love stages. With this design we won the Renault Design Award 2017. Show less
