Practical training. Worked for six months in the QA/QC Department of the Water Company of Thessaloniki. My duties included working with a team of analysts and performing biological and chemical analysis to ensure the quality of the town’s water network supplying over one million citizens. Greatly enhanced my laboratory techniques by being trained in microbiological techniques used in water quality and chemical techniques for determining metals in water, as well as the use of GC for detecting pesticides. Also trained in sampling methods, from rivers, network pipes and houses. Other duties included reporting once per week to the QA/QC Manager and training new employees. Gained valuable experience and knowledge in water quality assurance, greatly enhanced my social skills since I had contact with the public as a sampler and learning to act as a member of a team in which I had the opportunity to lead. Summer job. Laboratory assistant and analyst in the QA/QC Microbiological Department. Duties involved microbiological analysis in the water used by the plant for production. Also every day check from the microbiological aspect of the final product. Other tasks involved sampling from the whole production chain, sanitary check of the kegs and truck containers. The experience gained from this summer job was invaluable since it was one of the busiest plants in beverage industry in Greece because of the Athens Olympic Games 2004 in which it was a sponsor. One of the greatest benefits was that I had to adapt in a very demanding and precise schedule that required nothing less than serious professionalism. Show less
