BackgroundBorn in Milan to a Catholic family in 1962, I attended classical studies at the public high-school G. Parini (Ginnasio - Liceo Classico, 1976-1981). Upon completion, I studied two years of philosophy at the Univ. del Sacro Cuore di Milano. Then I moved to Rome in 1986 to begin my Theological Studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University where I started teaching, after having received my licence to teach in 1994, before my doctorate. I attended all my theological studies (1986-1997) under the intellectual guidance of Father Karl Josef Becker S.J. (†2015), Ordinary Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Gregorian University and a leading authority in the field of History of Dogma. At the Faculty of Theology, after my Bachelor degree (1991), I earned my Licentiate (1994) and PhD (1997) in Dogmatic Theology with the dissertation The Salvation of non-Christians. The influence of Henri de Lubac’s Theology on the doctrine of Vatican II, under the direction of Fr. Karl Josef Becker S.J.. Starting in 1994 I taught in the Faculty of Theology for 16 years, after which I accepted a move to the Faculty of Missiology (with which I had been involved since 1999) to support its radical reform. Among the professors who strongly supported me during my studies, the Jesuits: Fr. K. J. Becker, Fr. J. Wicks, Fr. A. Anton.Present dayI am:Extraordinary professor of Dogmatic Theology (with tenure/permanent contract since 2011). This past June 30th I have concluded my service as Director of the Department of Missiology (2011-2015).Consultant for the Pontif. Council for Interrel. Dialogue (appointed in March 2014).Member of the International Academy of Religious Sciences (since 2007). Member of the Internat. Inst. für Missionswissenschaftl. Forschungen.Research and StudiesMy research are focused on historical-dogmatic and historical-theological questions which cannot be understood without studying the history of dogmatic and theological development.
