      - Biophase Unit: weighing, clinical controls, method of anaesthesia induction, complete necropsy of animals, intrapleural and oropharyngeal treatment in rats; intravenous and subcutaneous injection in mice; serial blood sampling technique from rat tail; blood sampling technique from the vena cava of rats and mice. Since I follow the day-to-day supervision and overall management of laboratory animal care personnel and the animal facility; I ensure that animals are provided feed, water, bedding and clean cages, according to their individual care requirement and also that proper environmental conditions (temperatures, light levels and ventilation) are met at all times. - Safety pharmacology Unit: knowledge in particular on two valuation methods in mice, Irwin test (that allows the assessment of parameters such as physical characteristics, behavioral responses, neurological responses, and autonomic responses) and plethysmography (evaluates the possible alteration of the parameters of the animal's breath). - Study Director in the GLP Life Test (Good practice laboratory of the Ramazzini Institute) - Histopathology Unit: trimming of the organs of laboratory animals, processing, cutting and coloring of histological preparations -Reception, communication, assistance and relationship with external partners. The research in which I was involved in the years at the General Pharmacology Unit of Rottapharm|Madaus was focused in the evaluation of an analgesic compound that could reverse the mechanical hyperalgesia elicited by a surgical lesion of the hind paw in the rat (Brennan’s model of post-operative pain) watching also its interaction with some agonist and antagonist compounds and if its co-administration with morphine, that could be beneficial to decrease the analgesic doses of both compounds preventing side effects. My role in this project was to concretely carry out the experiments in all their parts, from the treatment of animals to the application of the pain tests Randall-Sellitto and Von Frey. This studies underlined a significant analgesic effect of the compound linked to its interaction with imidazoline-2 binding sites, both as stand-alone treatment and in association with morphine and shows a synergic interaction with it. All the results was showed at the Italian Society of Pharmacology congress (2012), American Pain Society annual meeting (2013) and European Pain Federation Congress (2013). A subsequent co-author publication was a featured article in the British Journal of Pharmacology (2014). The role as thesis student and researcher in Rottapharm|Madaus allowed me to develop familiarity with animals, design and lead independently acute toxicity experiments, gain autonomy in multiple procedures in Sprague-Dawley rats: oral administration, subcutaneous injection, intraperitoneal injection, intravenous injection, microsurgical techniques such as pylorus ligation, sciatic nerve ligation, hind paw surgery, Randall-Sellitto test, Von Frey test, model of evaluation and count of gastric ulcers, partial necropsy. In this period I have also gotten the qualification to the profession of Biologist. Show less
